DLR is not new to TenneT. The company has been applying it in the Netherlands for more than a decade. What is changing now is the scale.
As transmission grids face higher demand, more congestion, and growing pressure from electrification, operators need faster ways to unlock capacity without waiting for large infrastructure upgrades. DLR helps address that challenge by showing how much capacity a line can safely carry under real conditions.
That is where field data becomes critical.
TenneT already performs its DLR calculations in-house. For this project, the need was clear: a flexible sensor deployment model, reliable line data, and a solution that fits into existing operational processes.
Sentrisense was selected because its technology supports that approach. The sensors can be deployed quickly, including through drone-based installation, helping reduce operational disruption and avoiding the need for planned outages during installation.
For TenneT, this flexibility matters. The value of DLR can change from line to line, depending on weather conditions, static ratings, component limitations, and network priorities. Having access to field data allows the operator to better target where DLR creates the most value, validate internal calculations, and continue refining its models over time.
For Sentrisense, the agreement reflects a broader shift in grid monitoring.
DLR is moving from isolated applications to scalable operational programs. Transmission operators are no longer only asking whether more capacity exists. They need to know where it exists, when it is available, and how to use it safely.
“We are proud to support TenneT as they expand the use of DLR across their network. This agreement reflects exactly the kind of practical, scalable application we believe will define the next stage of grid monitoring” — Sebastián Cerone, CEO at Sentrisense
By supporting TenneT’s DLR expansion, Sentrisense continues its work with transmission operators looking to operate the grid with more visibility, more flexibility, and better use of existing infrastructure.
About Sentrisense
Sentrisense develops advanced monitoring technology for overhead power lines and towers, helping transmission operators gain real-time visibility into grid conditions. The company supports operators with field data for Dynamic Line Rating (DLR), asset monitoring, and data-driven grid operation, enabling them to increase capacity, improve reliability, and make safer, more efficient use of existing infrastructure.
